German Shepherd Dog Breed

Also known as the Alsatian, the German Shepherd is a large dog weighing between 77 and 85 pounds. The dogs measure 24-26 cm at the withers, and females 22-24 cm. German Shepherd dog is muscular and agile, and well suited to all forms of energy work. Three layers can be found in these dogs: straight coarse hair (the most common type), long straight hair coarse and curly long hair. The usual coat colors of tan and black or all black. Less visible colors of the liver, blue or white.

History: The 19th century Germany, breeders began to develop a special dog to the local sheep herding dog. Led by Captain Max von Stephanitz, the effort to produce a highly intelligent and trainable dog has resulted in what is now known as the German Shepherd. It is believed it is certain that wolves were bred, either intentionally or accidentally, to help form a field of dogs of the breed. Temperament: The German Shepherd Dog is very popular for its loyalty, and attach it to the owner and his family. This is one of the most popular breed in America. Very protective, whom to love. German Shepherd dog good with children, especially if socialized properly. This is a brave and cheerful dog, enjoys being around the human family.

The GSD is sometimes considered to be an aggressive dog. However, it should be emphasized that all large dogs, untrained and unsupervised which can be characterized as such. This is a very active dog that wants to work with the German Shepherd should do something. Training this dog should be started in a positive way, as the little dog brought home.

Health Issues: The most feared and potentially life-threatening condition these dogs experience bloat or gastric torsion. Each dog will be very sick, and this should be taken to a veterinarian immediately. As a large breed, the GSD is suffering from hip and elbow problems. Because these dogs have been selectively bred to a sloping back and spinal problems can develop. A good deal of inbreeding had to refine the types of von Willebrand's disease, a form of hemophilia, may occur. Carriers of the disease can be detected by blood tests.
